Which charging station is suitable for your company?
Which charging station is suitable depends on various factors. Do you have space for a charging station or just a charging point on the wall? Do you only need to charge your own car or do several employees already drive electric? And what are the future expectations and plans of your company when it comes to electric driving? In addition, charging stations are available in various capacities. The greater the capacity, the faster a car is charged.
The cost of a charging station starts at around €750,- excluding VAT. This does not include installation costs and a service subscription. Charging stations with multiple charging points are extremely suitable for companies: multiple cars can be charged at the same time. Charging is often paid for with a charging card. This allows you to decide who can charge their car at your charging station.
Where do you place the charging stations: at the office or at employees' homes?
When purchasing a charging station, it is good to think about where it can best be placed. If you install a charging station in the parking lot at your company, this has several advantages. Employees and customers can easily charge their electric car and it gives your company a sustainable image.
But what if an employee is often on the road for work? Then it might be more convenient to place the charging station at the employee's home, so that they can charge their car at night. It is wise to record this properly on paper. For example, what happens if the employee moves or leaves the company? Does the charging station move with them? And who pays these costs? You can include agreements about this in the car scheme. Do not forget to also include any reimbursement of charging costs.
What about the charging costs?
As an employer, you may reimburse your employees for the costs of using a company car, including charging, free of charge. This applies to the costs at public charging points, charging stations at the office and at employees' homes. Employees must be able to provide a specification with the consumption in kWh and the applicable rate. Charging costs are not reimbursed for employees who have their own electric car. They fall under the standard scheme, which entitles them to a reimbursement of €0.19 per km.
New office building? At least one charging point required for every 10 parking spaces
Since 2020, it has been mandatory to take electric charging points into account when constructing new utility buildings. This also applies to existing utility buildings that are being extensively renovated. The starting point is that at least 1 electric charging point must be installed for at least 10 parking spaces for employees. At least 1 charging point must be installed for existing utility buildings with at least 20 parking spaces from 2025. This regulation falls under the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, about which more information can be found on the RVO website.
Apply for subsidies for charging stations
If you spend at least €2,500 on electric charging points (possibly in combination with an electric vehicle), you can use the MIA and Vamil schemes.
With the Environmental Investment Deduction (MIA) you can write off up to 36% of the investment amount from the profit, on top of the usual investment deduction. In addition, in certain cases you can use the Vamil scheme, with which you can write off up to 75% of the investment costs. On the website of the RVO you will find an overview of the various subsidy schemes.
Also consider charging points for electric bicycles
Thanks to the new bicycle lease scheme, it has become more attractive for employees to lease an (electric) bicycle since this year. As a result, electric bicycles are increasingly used for commuting. The battery of an electric bicycle can be charged at any power outlet at home using the supplied charger. The charging costs for this can be reimbursed using the free space in the work costs scheme (WKR).
Do you also want to offer your employees the possibility to charge their bicycles at the office? Make sure that they have access to a covered, dry and lockable bicycle shed with power outlets.
ANWB joins forces with Eneco for installation of charging stations
ANWB, in collaboration with Eneco, has recently started offering charging stations for home and office use. We deliver and install the charging station including a hosting contract. This gives you a personal digital environment with an overview of all charging transactions and costs incurred. We can automatically settle the charging costs for you and your employees with your company. It is possible to connect the charging stations to existing solar panels. This makes the charging stations even more sustainable and often profitable. Even if you do not have solar panels, we ensure that the electricity consumed is 100% sustainable.
