Definition

The battery capacity, or Ampere-hour, determines the amount of current a battery can deliver per hour. In addition to the pure capacity of the battery, the discharge curve is also important. This curve determines the behavior of the battery during discharge, whereby an ideal situation is formed when the battery constantly delivers the same amount of energy. This ideal battery does not yet exist. The influence of temperature, number of discharges and the conditions in which the battery is charged and stored determine the battery capacity during the life of the battery.

In the opposite direction, the amount of Ah of the charger shows how big the capacity is that is delivered to the battery. The bigger this capacity, the faster the battery will be charged.

Calculation example

18v 3.0Ah (3000mAh) and a screwdriver that uses 600mAh per hour. If you use the machine continuously at full load, the battery is charged with 600mAh per hour, or:
3000mAh/600mAh = 5 hours.

Suppose you increase the battery capacity with an 18v 6.0Ah and your screwdriver still consumes 600mAh per hour at full load, then the usage time doubles:
6000mAh / 600mAh = 10 hours.
