Every now and then you are in a hurry. Or you simply forgot to charge the battery of your electric car. At that moment you have so-called fast chargers . These charging stations charge the EV much faster than the average public charging station (and are also much faster than home chargers). Since they are much more expensive to build, the providers also charge a considerably higher rate.
On average, fast chargers charge around 60 euro cents per kWh , compared to an average of 40 euro cents per kWh at standard public charging stations. It is also a good idea to check the costs before you start fast charging . There are providers where you can quickly pay 80 euro cents per kWh , which means you end up at almost 17 euro cents per kilometer. That is twice as much as the costs per kilometer at the average public charging station based on the average price.
Can I fast charge cheaper ? At home or with a card for example?
Fast charging at home is not an attractive option. The costs of increasing the connection plus the costs of the (very) heavy charging station never outweigh the convenience of being able to charge quickly. Public charging stations along major roads are often equipped with fast chargers . These ensure that the battery is usually 80% full again within half an hour. The costs are high, as described above.
Are you already assuming that you will need the fast chargers often? Then look into charging cards that allow you to charge quickly at more attractive rates. Charging cards for fast chargers are quickly attractive if you use them regularly. Make sure that you choose a charging card provider that has agreements with the provider of the fast chargers that you want to use; otherwise it is not a worthwhile investment to get started with charging cards for your EV.
